Tamron unveils 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 all-in-one zoom lens for Sony full-frame mirrorless cameras
Tamron has introduced its latest 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD (Model A071) all-in-one zoom lens for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras. At 28mm, this lens can support a maximum aperture of f/2.8 which makes it the world’s brightest all-in-one zoom lens for mirrorless cameras. In terms of optical construction, the new Tamron 28-200mm utilizes 18 lens elements in 14 groups and equips a number of special lenses in order to control chromatic and other aberrations.
When it comes to minimum focusing distance, this lens will allow you to get as close as 7.5″ to the object & achieve a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.1 at 28mm focal length. At the telephoto end, it will support a minimum object distance of 31.5″ & a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.8.
The new Tamron 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD (Model A071) weighs 575g and measures 4.6″ in length. Not only it is extremely versatile but also portable. Note that this lens supports the same 67mm filter size as other Tamron lenses for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras.

Lens Elements
Holding 18 lens elements in 14 groups, the Tamron 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 also contains special optics like GM (Glass Molded Aspherical), hybrid aspherical, XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) and LD (Low Dispersion) lens elements to deal with different types of aberrations. On top of that, it features BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coating that significantly reduces the effect of flares resulting in a sharper image with better contrast. This lens is also capable of utilizing in-camera correction features to deal with distortion and shading.
Maximum Aperture at Different Zoom Levels
This 28-200mm lens is able to open the aperture wide enough at f/2.8 at 28mm. As the focal length increases from wide-angle towards telephoto, the maximum aperture support starts decreasing.
Focal Length / Zoom Level | Maximum Aperture |
---|---|
28mm | f/2.8 |
50mm | f/3.5 |
100mm | f/4.5 |
200mm | f/5.6 |
Autofocus
Thanks to the AF drive and RXD motor system that helps the latest 28-200mm to achieve a fast and accurate focus on the object. Not only does this mechanism ensures silent and precise autofocus, but contributes to weight reduction. In addition, this lens is compatible with many of the advanced features that are specific to certain mirrorless cameras such as Fast Hybrid AF, Eye AF, & Direct Manual Focus.
Construction
The new Tamron 28-200mm F/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD (Model A071) features moisture-resistant construction that protects the lens throughout the barrel from moisture. Additionally, the front surface of the lens comes with fluorine coating that boasts outstanding water and oil repellant qualities.
