Olympus unveils M.ZUIKO Digital ED 100-400mm F5.0-6.3 IS for M4/3 Mounts

Olympus has launched its M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 100-400mm telephoto lens for its micro four-thirds cameras, 200-800mm in 35mm equivalent. It also packs some features from the Pro series lens (like splashproof, dustproof, and image stabilization). It supports F5.0 aperture opening at 100mm and a slower F6.3 aperture at 400mm.

The lens is also compatible with teleconverters if you want to extend your focal length. When the lens is coupled with a 1.4x or 2x Teleconverter like MC-14 or MC-20, the 35mm equivalent focal length can be boosted up to 1600mm.

M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 100-400mm F5.0-6.3 IS is made up of 21 elements in 15 groups, & includes special lens elements like 4 ED lenses, 2 Super HR lenses, and 2 HR lenses). ZERO coatings in front of the lens are included to avoid flares and ghosts as well. Olympus also features a high-level dustproof and splash-proof mechanism so that you may shoot without any worry about the lens.

The high precision rear focus system drives the AF lens easily to attain smooth and fast autofocus. In addition, in-built image stabilization(IS) in the lens works synchronously with the camera IBIS to produce very sharp images, with up to 3 steps. The lens also has a IS on/off button if you want to go full manual. Besides, the body has a very fine grip that lets you take full control over the functioning.

The new M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 100-400mm F5.0-6.3 IS lens weighs around 1.2kg and might be a problem if you are using a small camera. Otherwise, the lens weighs right enough to give you a feel to shoot confidently. Unlike the Pro series, this ED 100-400mm lens has a part plastic and part metal body.
