Netflix has its own set of guidelines to approve a project. One of the crucial aspects of that is the production requirements, more specifically, camera specifications. Up until now, only certain expensive professional cinema cameras could make it to the Netflix camera requirements list. Now, Panasonic Lumix S1H mirrorless camera is stepping into that list becoming the world’s first Netflix-certified mirrorless camera.
To get approved by Netflix, a camera must support 4k resolution with 10-bit internal recording at 400 Mb/s. It should be capable of V-Log color space with 4:2:2 subsampling. The camera should also support 14 stops of dynamic range. Another strict requirement for Netflix approved cameras is the pixel-for-pixel readout with no line skipping.
Thanks to the technology behind Panasonic Lumix S1H that makes it all possible. This mirrorless camera not only captures 4k but also has the potential to shoot in 6k resolution. However, there are some more specification requirements for using the camera as a main or secondary one. It is allowed to shoot in 4k-DCI (4096 x 2160) or UHD (3840 x 2160) as the main camera. Being B-Camera, it can shoot all the way up to 6k. This Netflix Certified Mirrorless camera can also shoot anamorphic and is also approved to shoot in that format for Netflix.
