Center Macro Focus
While already boasting a large focal range, this new lens also pleases macro photographers with its ability to get pretty close to the object. Using Center Macro Focus, this lens features up to 0.5x magnification whereas in Autofocus mode it can achieve a maximum magnification of 0.4x.
The Center Macro Focus mode in Canon RF 24-105mm STM works when the focal range of the lens is at 24mm and the focus mode in the camera is set to MF (Manual Focus). Additionally, the focus ring switch of the lens should be at the “FOCUS” position instead of “CONTROL”. You can get as close as one inch to the subject with Center Macro Focus mode and up to 0.66ft (7.92 inches) with Auto Focus mode.
Optical Image Stabilization & Autofocus
Due to the leadscrew-type STM (Stepping Motor) technology, the new RF 24-105mm STM is able to provide OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) support with up to 5 stops of shake correction. As a benefit, the lens works well in low-light situations and does not produce blurred images. Furthermore, it helps the lens to achieve fast autofocus capabilities for still images as well as smooth and quiet autofocus for videos.
