Canon has unveiled a new update to the beloved Rebel T7i DSLR for starters, the Canon EOS Rebel T8i that now features better video specs with 4k resolution support, a new processor, face detection AF, and other minor upgrades while maintaining the affordable price. As of now, Rebel T8i is the most powerful Canon Rebel series DSLR camera both in terms of still and video specifications.
New Features in Canon Rebel T8i
New Image Processor
While the Rebel T7i makes use of DIGIC 7, the new Canon Rebel T8i incorporates a much powerful DIGIC 8 image processor. This helps the camera to achieve faster operations and capture better images with quick autofocus performance.
Better Video Specifications
Canon Rebel T8i boasts the capability to shoot 4k video up to 23.98 fps with YCbCr 4:2:0 8 bit color sampling. At maximum, it will support a bit rate up to 120Mbps. An important thing to remember is that T8i can shoot 4k videos only in cropped mode.
T8i also comes with vertical video support that you can easily enable or disable through the menu.
Upgraded Autofocus
Unlike T7i, Rebel T8i equips a new 220,000-pixel AE sensor as well as EOS iTR AF (intelligent Tracking & Recognition Auto Focus) that enables face and eye detection for better autofocus performance. In 4k UHD mode, the camera will use Contrast AF. T8i can cover approximately 88% horizontal and 100% vertical focus area with compatible EF and EF-S lenses.
Slightly Better Frame Rate For Continuous Shots
For continuous shooting, EOS Rebel T8i supports slightly better frame rates than Rebel T7i with 7 fps instead of 6. In live view mode, this value increases from 7 to 7.5 frames per second.
Design Upgrade
Some of the changes in design include the addition of AF-ON button a.k.a. back focus button and the quick control dial. With AF-ON, you can take a better control of moving subjects without losing focus even if another subject passes by.
